Metal braces, once the only tooth-straightening choice, aren't the only option today. Invisalign offers an effective way to correct orthodontic issues without drawing attention to the fact that you're straightening your teeth. Our orthodontist, Dr. Kishawn Kole-James of Superior Orthodontics with offices in Detroit & West Bloomfield Township, MI, explains the Invisalign process.
Digital technology offers a better way to straighten teeth
Clear, removable aligner trays do all the work in the Invisalign system, unlike traditional braces that use wires and brackets to reposition teeth. Over the course of your treatment, you'll wear multiple aligners, each designed to accomplish a specific goal in your straightening plan. The aligner trays are worn 20 to 22 hours per day. Aligners are designed using information compiled from digital images, impressions and X-rays. Combining the digital images on the computer in our office creates a 3D representation of your mouth that's used to design your treatment plan.
The same results without wires
Are you concerned that Invisalign might not be effective for your particular orthodontic issue? Most mild to moderate orthodontic problems can be corrected with Invisalign. Although you may need to wear traditional braces if you have severe or complex issues, Invisalign offers excellent results if you have an:
- Open bite
- Crowding, gaps or other spacing issues
No pain, plenty of gain
Invisalign aligner trays offer a comfortable experience. The trays are made of comfortable plastic that exerts steady, yet gentle, pressure on your teeth.
Eating and oral hygiene are much easier with the Invisalign system. After you remove your trays, you can eat anything you want. Before you put your aligners back in your mouth, it's important to brush your teeth and rinse your retainers.
An excellent choice no matter what your age
Invisalign is recommended for people of all ages. If you're an adult, you may find that you only need to wear the aligners for about a year to improve your smile. The aligners can be modified to allow space for unerupted teeth to appear in teenagers.
